Food Network and Cooking Channel star Aida Mollenkamp has provided her culinary guide Keys to the Kitchen to enjoy from February 17 through March 5.  Keys to the Kitchen is a cookbook by definition, but it’s much more than simply directions to get from page to plate. Author Aida Mollenkamp provides helpful how-to information on everything from proper knife skills and finding the right ingredients to throwing a show- stopping cocktail party. It doesn’t just provide ideas on what to cook, but also walks the reader through how to cook.

In addition to providing her book for free to Big Library Read libraries, Aida will also be doing a Facebook chat with readers on Wednesday, February 26 at 8 pm EST. Readers will have a chance to ask Aida about her passion for discovering new flavors, her studies at the Cornell Hotel School and Le Cordon Bleu Paris, and much more.

The paper’s staff was bemused enough to comment on this request in the October 22, 1913 edition of The Chatham Record. How does one “advertise” a funeral?

Library staff member Sharen Faye designed the logo, which reflects both the roofline of Chatham Community Library in Pittsboro (main branch) as well as an open book.

The logo will go hand-in-hand with a new tagline: “Connect, Learn, Grow,” which represents the library’s mission to connect people with information they need, often using new technologies.

The library system will begin using the logo and tagline immediately on webpages and printed items, though it may take several months to completely transition.

• Let’s Talk About It Mysteries! Let’s Talk About It is a series of programs offered by the North Carolina Humanities Council and the State Library of North Carolina.  Each program features discussions of books or films moderated by North Carolina Humanities Council scholars.  The Friends of the Chatham Community Library have been awarded a grant to bring this program and the scholar-moderators to Chatham Community Library during the next few months.  Our program, Mysteries, will kick off with a presentation by Friends of the Library President Rhoda Berkowitz entitled The History of Mystery.  At five meetings following her presentation, Humanties Council scholars will moderate discussions of five different contemporary mysteries.
